Contact Your Elected Officials - Budget Bill Threatens Hunting Opportunities You can take action on this alert by reading the information below and following the directions at the bottom. Ask your legislators to vote against the budget reconciliation bill unless the provisions that harm hunting and fishing are removed. In an effort to balance the budget, the U.S. House and Senate have each passed Budget Reconciliation bills that authorize an unacceptable giveaway of public lands and deep cuts in the Farm Bill conservation programs. These provisions in the Budget Reconciliation Bill are a bold attack on the U.S. public lands system. Public lands are managed in trust by the U.S. Forest Service, the Fish and Wildlife Service and the Bureau of Land Management for all the people of the United States. Public lands belong to YOU, not private interests. The Future of Hunting on Public Lands Depends on You. If you are a hunter or angler, or anyone who values the wildlife found on public lands, it is critical that you get involved in the preservation of our hunting heritage. Ask your legislators to vote against the budget reconciliation bill unless these harmful provisions are removed. From December 6-15, Congressmen will be in Washington. Responding to this action alert will send an email directly to them in Washington. From December 15 - mid January, they will be in their districts. Use this time to set up a meeting or give them a call. Click on the "My Actions" link in the grey bar above to get your legislators contact information. (If you do not see that option, you need to either log into the system, or join the Coalition). You need to let your Congressman know how you feel about the sell off of our public lands. Do not allow land that belongs to American citizens be sold to pay off a deficit. To allow hunting and fishing access to some of our country's most productive and valuable wild places to be auctioned off to the highest bidder is not acceptable. Please oppose any language in the budget reconciliation bill that would provide a mechanism to sell the American citizen's ecological treasures, threaten these valued hunting/fishing and recreational public resources either by selling mining patent rights or reducing conservation funding in the farm bill.
