General Assembly Is Stealing Our Money - Again!

You can take action on this alert by reading the information below and following the directions at the bottom.

Issue

HB 1232 will strip money from the sale of nongame license plates, along with other special plates, such as NASCAR and trout plates, and redirect it to the General Fund where it will be used in ways not intended by those who purchased such plates.

Background

In the case of the “eagle” plates, this alteration would essentially eliminate the state’s conservation programs for nongame wildlife since the license plate is the primary fundraising mechanism for the nongame fund.

This money has voluntarily been contributed in good faith by Georgians who purchased these special license plates to benefit nongame wildlife and acquire critical wildlife habitat for nongame and game species alike and to enhance trout populations. Measures that benefit nongame wildlife also benefit game animals. Nongame wildlife and game animals share the same habitat. Some of the habitat purchased from the sale of these license plates is open to hunting. It is unacceptable to redirect money donated by Georgia residents for a specific purpose. This legislation is not only an attack on wildlife but is a willful violation of the public trust. TAKE ACTION and tell them to oppose HB 1232.

Oppose HB 1232

Dear Representative Powell,

As a sportsman who also cares about nongame wildlife, I strongly oppose HB1232, which will take money from the sale of nongame wildlife license plates, among others, and put that money into the general treasury. The money for these license plates was voluntarily contributed in good faith by Georgians who purchased these special license plates to benefit nongame wildlife and acquire critical wildlife habitat. All wildlife, nongame and game, benefit from the programs supported by the sale of nongame license plates.

The sale of these license plates is the primary fundraising mechanism for the nongame fund and would severely impact the state’s conservation programs for nongame wildlife. Currently there are no state general funds for this purpose.

Passing this bill will not only be detrimental to the nongame wildlife of Georgia but it is also a breach of trust with Georgians. Please oppose HB 1232.
