Help Save Funding for the Land Conservation Program and Go Fish Georgia You can take action on this alert by reading the information below and following the directions at the bottom. It is important that the subcommittees hear from you concerning funding both of these programs. We are glad to report that Governor Perdue has recommended significant funding for two important conservation initiatives in his new budget proposal. He recommended $50 million for land conservation and $13 million in the current year amended budget and $6 million next year for a program called GO FISH GEORGIA. These funds will help build new major access points and competition facilities, educate travelers about Georgia fishing opportunities, and improve our fish stocks over time to assure that we hold on to the record for the biggest largemouth in the world at 22 pounds, 4 ounces. There are two House Appropriations Subcommittees that will be deciding early next week on the amount of funding they will recommend for these two programs. These committees have the authority to change the Governor’s recommendation and will likely reduce them if they don’t hear from YOU, their constituents. These are outstanding recommendations both to build our state economy related to fishing and to help recruit new anglers to our sporting traditions. Your response to this alert will go to all of the members of both of these subcommittees as well as to your general assembly members. It is important that they hear from you concerning funding both of these programs. The land conservation program will be purchasing lands that will be open for hunting and fishing and the GO FISH GEORGIA is an economic development program that will benefit all of us.
