Hands Off Our Conservation Funding!!!

You can take action on this alert by reading the information below and following the directions at the bottom.

Issue

Join your fellow hunters and anglers from across the nation on Wednesday, October 17 in delivering a strong message to the Senate Agriculture Committee Conservation programs are not a piggy bank for the rest of the farm bill!

Background

Join a national conservation call-in day on Wednesday, or send an email message today (details below)!

Conservation programs represent just 5% of the funding of the massive Federal Farm Bill, but deliver impressive results for both agricultural producers and fish and wildlife populations. Yet, such funding is nearly always the first to be cut when budgets are tight. As the five year Farm Bill is reauthorized this year, conservation has faced an enormous up hill battle for funding.

Sen. Chambliss is the ranking Republican on the Senate Agriculture Committee and has always been a friend to hunters, anglers and those who care about wildlife and the outdoors. As such, he will play a key role in determining what gets funded. He needs to hear from hunters and anglers that we care about these programs, which are so popular that currently four farmers are waiting in line to participate for every one who gets a chance to enroll.

An additional $5 billion is desperately needed for conservation in order to ensure popular programs like the Wetlands Reserve Program and Grassland Reserve Program dont end. While about $3 billion in new funding was provided for conservation by the Finance Committee earlier this month, many now want to steal this money to fund other areas of the Farm Bill.

Tell Senator Chambliss to protect conservation funding and ask him to work to find additional funding so that the conservation title isnt shortchanged once again!

Support an additional $5 billion for conservation programs in the Farm Bill

Dear Senator Chambliss,

I know you are an avid hunter and outdoorsman and have always been our champion for wildlife conservation. Please support an additional $5 billion for conservation programs in the Farm Bill. This funding is needed to continue these programs that do so much for fish and wildlife habitat in Georgia. As a hunter and angler, who loves the outdoors, I am counting on you to make sure that the next Farm Bill provides this funding for vital conservation programs. Please use all of your influence to find the additional funding and protect these programs for wildlife.
