I support deer hunting at FDR State Park Dear Ms. Kelley
As a Georgia sportsman, I strongly support deer hunting as a preferred and appropriate wildlife management tool for controlling deer populations at FDR State Park as proven on other state parks and state lands. The Department of Natural Resources has a custodial responsibility to ensure the state natural resources are well managed, better tomorrow than they are today, and are available for everyone to use and enjoy. This state resource is owned by all the citizens of Georgia and enjoyed by thousands of families and our out-of-state visitors. It is in all our best interests to maintain a healthy ecosystem within the park in order to support the missions of the Department of Natural Resources and the State Parks Division. . Providing managed deer hunts on FDR State Park is the environmentally responsible and sound course of action. Such an action exemplifies the most responsible stewardship of our natural resources.
Deer hunting in state parks has proven popular among sportsmen and extremely effective and efficient. It is popular with hunters as it provides an additional hunting opportunity to share with family and friends while providing a deer management service to the public at no charge. In fact, it is revenue positive to the state compared to the revenue negative costs of tax payer dollars to hire sharp shooters for the same service. It has also improved wildlife habitat degraded from deer overabundance and reduced the incidents of deer-car collisions where parks are located in close proximity to urbanized areas of Georgia. .
With safety as a primary consideration, park staff, the Georgia DNR Wildlife Resources Division and hunters are all respectful of nearby private landowner concerns. Safety zones within the parks, safety meetings, law enforcement presence and attention to local concerns are all components contributing to the overall safety and security of surrounding properties. There has been no safety compromising incidents associate with managed hunts on State Parks due to precautions taken by DNR staff and cognizant efforts of Georgia hunters.
It is with this level of detail, consideration and understanding that I encourage this hunting opportunity be established to provide the myriad of benefits to all Georgians.
Thank you for this opportunity to provide input, express my support for hunting on state parks and for your thoughtful consideration in support of deer hunting at FDR State Park.
Sincerely,
Your name and address here
